2012 Harrison Reunion
The reunion was held on Saturday 10th and Sunday 11th of November 2012 at the Waubra Recreation Reserve.
The weekend was a great success with over 150 descendants enjoying a fun filled weekend with great friends and of course, family.
The oldest and youngest family member in attendance unveiled a rememberance plaque together inscribed;
"To Commemorate the 160th Anniversary of the arrival of James Harrison (1817-1883) his wife Ann Harrison nee Gibson (1815-1858) and their two son's William Gibson Harrison (1840-1903) Christopher Harrison (1842-1924) from 'Abbey Mill' Marton-in-the-Forest North Yorkshire, England on board the 'Bourneuf' arriving at Point Henry Geelong Victoria on 3rd September 1852, 'An Early Pioneering Family of Waubra' Erected and Unveiled at the Harrison Reunion Waubra 10th and 11th November 2012"
We also had the official book launch of "A history of the Harrison Family Waubra", which was welcomed with much delight from family.
A few items were also officially donated to the Learmonth and District Historical Society including a family bible once belonging to Rosie Prayle and given to her from her Aunt Ada Jane Harrison, and a Waubra Cemetery Burial Register (copy), both items donated by the Fraser Family. A meat safe made from a kerosene tin designed and made by Duncan McGregor (Husband of Amelia 'Millie' Harrison) was donated by David McGregor and his family.
There was also a wedding gown display. We had a whole wedding party display with wedding gown, bridesmaid and flowergirl dress's and also a display of 3 generations of wedding gowns dating back to 1942. We had individual gowns also on display and I wish to thank those people who kindly bought their dress's to display.
We had a nightdress on display that was made and worn by the Late Rita Joyce Collings nee Harrison, circa 1940's.
A handmade quilt was also put on display which featured photos of our ancestors and Australian native animals and flowers. The quilt was designed by a family member and was inscribed with the words, "The Roots of a Family Tree Begin with Two Hearts". Many comments were kindly made on this item and I wish to thank the designer for bringing it along and putting it on display.
The Waubra cemetery tour was a great success with many descendants adding their own stories on their memories of their ancestors buried there. A big thankyou to Bill Loader from the Learmonth and District Historical Society who led the tour and Lois Keating who is currently mapping out the cemetery.
The commemorative service on Sunday was held by Keith and Lorraine Harrison and many thanks also go to them for organising this.
Thankyou to everyone who made this a great weekend of catching up with old friends and family and also for those who lent their items to be included in the displays.
